Use Your Words

Abdiel had been trying to share his faith with his sister for years, but she wasn’t interested.  He had given up hope, but everything changed last month

Our Bible School focus in July was evangelism. After several days teaching the nuts and bolts, David Beck and I took the students out to practice what they learned.  We split into small groups and went door to door visiting strangers and family members of our students.

My first stop was with Abdiel’s family. I listened intently as they spoke about their lives and struggles. I connected their concerns with the Bible and showed them what it said about their situation. Together we looked at how the scriptures explain we have all failed at keeping God’s commands and the consequences. Then I briefly shared my own testimony about God transforming my life by grace through faith in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A few minutes later Abdiel’s sister was weeping, repenting of her sins and confessing Christ as Lord.

Somebody once said, “Preach the gospel at all times… use words when necessary.” But the fact is words are necessary. Being nice is not enough.  There comes a moment when we must explain the gospel… with words.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
